-- CAR SEAT SAFETY TIPS AND FREE CAR SEATS FROM MSU POLICE --
Michigan law requires infants and children 8 years of age and under (or until they are 4’9” inches in height) to ride securely in either a car seat or booster seat. These seats should be checked by a certified inspector to ensure they are properly fitted to your child and installed correctly. Car seats must be replaced if the vehicle has been involved in an accident, especially if the child received any injury or was moved in the seat.
Car seats can be costly and MSU Police has the ability to provide free car seats to the members of our community that are in need of this assistance. Of course there is a limited supply and will be given out on a first come basis. MSU Police can also help arrange for a safety car seat inspection with a certified inspector.
Please contact our department to arrange for an inspection or to request a free car seat. Please be aware the free car seat must be installed by a certified inspector so an appointment will have to be made.
-- MSU FOOD DRIVE --
These are disruptive times for individuals and families statewide and our community needs our help more than ever. This year marks our third year partnering with Intercollegiate Athletics for the Help Tackle Hunger Food Drive. Now through Saturday, November 21 at the MSU vs. Penn State football game, you have the opportunity to make donations right on campus. Last year, we collected 2,800 lbs. in donations for those in need and this year we hope to collect 5,000 lbs.
To achieve this goal, we need your help to make the 2009 Food Drive a big Spartan win by donating food and personal care items for the MSU Student Food Bank and the Greater Lansing Food Bank. Food bank shelves continue to run dangerously low on supplies and your donations are greatly appreciated.
Collections will be held at all residence hall service centers, the MSU Union, Kellogg Hotel & Conference Center, Spartan Village Community Center and University Village Community Center. On game day, Saturday, November 21, contributions may be brought to marked collection points near Spartan Stadium and in popular tailgating lot 89 and Munn Field. Monetary donations will also be accepted at all Sparty’s locations, the Union Central Store, the Spartan Spirit Shop at the MSU Union and the Kellogg Hotel & Conference Center Gift Shop during the collection period and in Spartan Stadium on game day.

-- MSU LBGTQ CLIMATE STUDY: REQUESTING YOUR PARTICIPATION --
Dear MSU Community Member:
At Michigan State University, we seek to create an environment
characterized by equal access for all students, faculty and staff
regardless of their cultural differences, and where individuals are not
just tolerated but valued. A welcoming and inclusive climate is grounded
in respect, nurtured by dialogue and evidenced by a pattern of civil
interaction. The first step in creating such an environment is to
assess the current campus climate in order to identify important issues
and then create opportunities for individuals, organizations,
departments, colleges and the university to address them.
We hope that you will take a few minutes to help us understand the
current climate for lesbian, bisexual, gay, transgender and queer
(LBGTQ) students, faculty and staff. All members of the MSU community
are invited to participate, regardless of their sexual orientation or
gender identity. The survey is designed to provide information about
both positive and challenging aspects of our climate. This survey is
your opportunity to describe your own personal experiences, your
observations, and to offer suggestions for change that might enhance the
climate. The data will be used to identify strategies for addressing
potential challenges and supporting positive LBGTQ and diversity
initiatives.
All of your answers are confidential and all of the results will be
reported in group form only. You will not be identifiable as an
individual. Your participation in this project is voluntary. This
research has been reviewed and approved by the Michigan State University
Institutional Review Board.
We urge you to take the 20-25 minutes needed to answer the questions by
The study is the result of a collaboration between GLFSA (GLBT Faculty,
Staff and Graduate Student Association), the Center for Gender in Global
Context (LBGTQ Studies Task Force), the LBGT Resource Center, and
student representatives from LBGT campus organizations. Dr. Susan
Rankin, nationally regarded for her research on LBGTQ campus climate, is
serving in a consulting role on this project. Funding for the study and
related initiatives is provided by a grant from the Office for Inclusion
and Intercultural Initiatives.
Thank you in advance for your contribution to this important project.
