-- GIVING TREE --


BEGINS ON FRIDAY, OCTOBER 23 at 9 A.M. (do NOT try to register now. The site that is up is the one from last year, the new site will not be active until the aforementioned date and time).

The MSU Federal Credit Union, in partnership with Residence Life and University Housing, is coordinating the donation of clothing and toys for children in University Apartments during this holiday season.

If you would like your child/children to be part of the Giving Tree Project and receive a gift, you can go directly to the web site. ONLY CHILDREN WHO ARE BETWEEN 2 AND 8 YEARS OF AGE ARE ELIGIBLE due to the amount of gifts that our partners able to supply.

Click on the link. Information will be shown in the square box to the right of the link. Scroll down (use arrows) to the word "here" (which appears in RED). Click it. You must complete information in all required fields for your entry to be valid. Also you must complete a separate entry for each child you wish to register. Once the form is completed, hit submit. You should receive a message indicating that your entry has been accepted.

Each child may receive one donated item that may either be a toy or an article of clothing. A maximum of $25.00 dollars has been set per gift. Please remember that, while shoppers try their best to purchase the specific items that you request, it is not always possible to do so. REGISTRATION WILL BEGIN ON FRIDAY, OCTOBER 23rd, 2009, at 9 a.m. AND END AFTER THE FIRST 75 ENTRIES HAVE BEEN SUBMITTED. NO EXCEPTIONS. Please note that no phone requests will be accepted, only on-line entries. Once a gift item has been entered and the form has been submitted, it can not be changed, so please have an idea beforehand as to what you want to request for your child/children.

-- DEVELOP FRIENDSHIP WITH AN INTERNATIONAL STUDENT --


IVAC is looking for domestic students who are interested in developing a friendship with an international student.

"MSU International Friendship Program" is a program sponsored by International Volunteer Action Corps (IVAC). IVAC is comprised of students who are taking on the challenge of bringing domestic and international students together for fun, meaningful dialogue, and relationship building.


This is a great opportunity to learn about other cultures and to help international students be a part of the great MSU experience.

-- TAKE THE WALK --


Join UARL and the International Volunteer Action Corps (IVAC) as we "take the walk" right here on MSUs campus! Take the Walk is an organization committed to giving back to those in need in Africa. And now you can give back by participating in a mile-long walk on October 25, 2009 beginning at 10 am. Historically, participants walk barefoot, but this is an optional choice for our walk. Those who wish to participate should plan to meet at 10 am on October 25th near The Rock in front of the Auditorium (located on Farm Lane across from Bessey Hall). When you sign-up to walk, the Take the Walk organization will donate $1 to one of their five affiliate organizations. Hope to see you there!

If you can't walk with us, please consider donating a pair of shoes. There is a donation box in the UARL office, Spartan Village Community Center, room 140.

SPOM will be holding a fundraiser at the Grand Traverse Pie Company on Friday, October 23, 2009, from 6:30am - 10:00pm. Attached to this email you will find a flyer. If you bring the flyer in and present it to the cashier when you place an order 20% of the sale will be donated to SPOM. You may print as many copies of the flyer as you will need.

Gather your co-workers, family, and friends and meet up at the Grand Traverse Pie Company on Friday, October 23, and help support Student Parents On a Mission.


-- MOTHER GOOSE ON THE LOOSE: LITERACY PROGRAM FOR YOUNG CHILDREN --


FREE!!!!!

Mother Goose on the Loose is an award-winning inclusive and interactive nursery rhyme program for young children (ages 0-4) along with a parent or caregiver. It will include music, movement, books, puppets and more. The program lasts half an hour, and you are invited to stay for playtime afterwards. It will be led by children's librarian Deborah Margolis.

Fall semester has started and while you are busy with classes, why not take some time to relax and enjoy yourself by taking classes and programs organized by the University Apartments Council of Residents (UACOR)? We have an array of activities for residents and children to enjoy. To register, just come to the class with a valid MSU ID together with the fees, and you’re all set to join! (as space permits).

INDIAN CLASSICAL MUSIC (with instrumentation)
You will learn notes, scales and rhythms in singing, as well as play some notes of Hindustani (Indian) classical music. There is no need to know Indian languages to sing the songs. Classes are held once a week on Mondays throughout the fall semester, and held at the Cherry Lane Community Center from 7:00pm to 9:00pm. * (the week of September 21, the class will be held in the Spartan Village Community Center, South Lounge).

YOGA
Learn the basic techniques with the appropriate forms. Classes are held twice a week every Tuesday and Thursday throughout the fall semester and held at the South Lounge, Spartan Village Community Center from 5:30pm to 6:30pm.

TAE KWON DO
This is for children (ages of 4 to 14 years old). Participants will have the opportunity to learn on the basic techniques. Classes will be held twice a week every Tuesday and Thursday from 6:00pm to 8.30pm. Classes will be held at the Gymnasium of the Spartan Village Community Center.

Day: Every Tuesday and Thursday
Time: 6:00pm to 8:30pm

SALSA CLASS
Enjoy the basic techniques and improve your dance skills. Classes are held once a week on Wednesdays, and held at the South Lounge of the Spartan Village Community Center from 7:00pm to 9:00pm.

BELLY DANCE CLASS

The Lending Center (located at 1434 F Spartan Village) provides household items for International students and scholars living in MSU apartments. Items on loan include blankets, pots/pan, lamps, sheets, kitchen utensils, dishes, and much more.
