Personal Well-Being
Students living in university residence halls and apartments are presented with daily opportunities to make choices that impact their health and safety. Gaining self-awareness, and learning to take personal responsibility for their choices are foundational learning outcomes.
Through participation in their on-campus residential communities, students will be encouraged and supported to expand their awareness, knowledge, and skills in the following areas:
- Recognizing how their lifestyle choices affect their health and well-being
- Utilizing campus and community resources that promote and assist with health and safety
- Recognizing how stress affects their health and ability to function effectively
- Maintaining a healthy body image
- Making informed choices about alcohol or drug use
- Taking the necessary precautions to assure their personal safety
- Developing positive methods for dealing with stress
- Developing the self-awareness to recognize when they need help from others
- Making healthy and informed decisions about food and exercise
- Making safe and healthy choices about sexual behavior
- Developing and maintaining healthy personal relationships
- Recognizing and making proactive choices about their mental and emotional health
