Character Development

Defining personal values, making decisions and accepting the consequences of those decisions is one of the challenges of the college experience. New experiences and freedoms require students to think about who they want to be, what ethical principles guide them, and what is important to them in their lives.

Through participation in their on-campus residential communities, students will be encouraged and supported to expand their awareness, knowledge, and skills in the following areas:
  • Being open to new ideas that challenge their own beliefs
  • Clarifying their personal values and beliefs
  • Recognizing how individual decisions and actions directly reflect personal values and character
  • Recognizing that each person has the ability and responsibility to define their personal values and beliefs
  • Reflecting on the consequences of their actions
  • Understanding that individual values and beliefs come from one's culture, background, and experiences
